| The JMI Medium Universal Wheeley Bar gives you an easy way to roll your tripod-mounted and assembled telescope from garage or den storage to a patio or driveway observing site. You don’t have to carry the telescope out in a number of heavy individual pieces and struggle to lift and assemble it in the dark. Simply roll your fully assembled telescope from indoors to outside and start looking. This Wheeley Bar is designed to work primarily with the following telescopes: ATS Portable Pier mount (depending on weight of telescope and configuration of the pier legs); Celestron C4-R, C5-S, C5-SGT, C6-N, C6-R, C6-RGT, C8, C8-NGT, C8-S, C8-SGT, C8+, C8-N, C8-S, C9¼-S, C9¼-SGT, C10-N, C10-NGT, C102-HD, Celestar 8, CG-4 mount, CG-5 mount, CG-9¼, Classic 8, CPC 1100 GPS, Fastar 8, G-8, G8-N, G-9¼, Great Polaris C8, Great Polaris mount, NexStar 8 / 8i / 8 GPS / 9¼ GPS / 11 GPS, Super C8 with adjustable tripod, Ultima 8 / 9¼ / 11; Losmandy GM-8; Meade 2080 and 2120 Fork mounts (except MTS) through LX200 7”, 8” and 10” (Ritchey-Chrétien, GPS and non-GPS versions) with standard field tripod, LXD55 AR-5 / AR-6 / SN-6 / SN-8 / SN-10, LXD75 AR-5 / AR-6 / SN-6 / SN-8 / SN-10, ETX-90EC and ETX-125EC with deluxe field tripod, LX10, LX50, LX90, LXD500 / 600 / 650 mounts, Starfinder German Equatorial 6 / 8 / 10; Orion SkyView Pro mount; and Vixen Great Polaris and Great Polaris Deluxe mounts.
The tips of your telescope tripod’s legs fit into 2.75” diameter receptacles at the ends of the three arms of the Wheeley Bar’s sturdy painted steel tripod base. The arms adjust in length to fit tripods with leg tip to leg tip distances from 33” to 43”, so even telescope tripods not listed above that adjust to those dimensions can also be used. For more details, click on the “tip-to-tip distance” icon above. This Wheeley Bar raises your telescope 4” off the ground. The Wheeley Bar is designed to be used with the telescope tripod legs fully retracted to keep the center of gravity low and allow the telescope to be moved through doorways more easily. Locking wheels and leveling screws on the Wheeley Bar allow you to move, lock, and level the complete telescope assembly with ease. The diameter of each locking hard rubber wheel is 2-3/8”. This wheel size is useful on relatively smooth surfaces – patios, driveways, etc. If your path from storage space to observing site is uneven (flagstone paving, for example), you might find that the optional 5” wheel upgrade Wheeley Bar version (#WBAR5) will make moving your scope easier. The optional 5” wheels (which are also available separately, should you decide to add them to this 2-3/8” wheel version later) let you maneuver on rough surfaces such as grass, dirt, and gravel. A word of warning. Care should be used when moving the complete system, even on smooth surfaces. Be certain the tripod legs are fully and firmly inserted into the Wheeley Bar’s leg receptacles. Pull or push the system only by gripping the telescope tripod below the center of gravity, particularly with a heavy scope mounted on the Wheeley Bar. Do not push the top of the scope to get it moving, particularly on uneven surfaces. Astronomics and JMI are not responsible for incorrect loading or operation. |
