This adapter consists of two parts that allow 35mm eyepiece projection photography using 1.25” eyepieces in most refractors and reflectors, as well as prime focus photography with refractors or reflectors using a 2” focuser. For eyepiece projection photography the 1.25” eyepieces must have a top (non-chrome) barrel that is less than 1.56” in diameter and shorter than 1.5” in length (such as a TeleVue 4.8mm Nagler, 15mm Panoptic, or 8mm to 26mm Plössl).

For eyepiece projection, the eyepiece slides into the bottom barrel of the eyepiece projection adapter. The chrome barrel of the eyepiece projects through the 1.25” hole in the bottom of the adapter. The top barrel of the adapter is then threaded into the bottom barrel until it contacts the top of the eyepiece to hold it in place. The chrome barrel of the eyepiece is then slipped into your scope’s 1.25” focuser (or into a user-supplied 1.25” adapter in a 2” focuser scope) and held in place by the focuser thumbscrew. The solid and stable adapter design locks the eyepiece perpendicular to the film plane for accurate focus over entire negative. The projection distance is 155mm.

For prime focus photography, the top barrel is used by itself in a 2” focuser. In both types of photography, an optional T-ring is threaded onto end of the top barrel to let you connect your camera body to the adapter.

With many refractors, there is not enough back focus available to accommodate the loss of light path length when the star diagonal is removed and the adapter installed in its place. In such cases, the adapter may need a 2” diameter x 2” or 3.5” long extension tube installed before the adapter to make up for the lost light path so it can reach proper photographic focus. TeleVue refractors require both a 2” extension tube (#1342C) and a 3.5” extension tube (#1343C) in order for the adapter to reach focus.
