It has a dovetail adapter that clamps onto an optional Losmandy D-Series dovetail accessory mounting plate that is attached to either the top or underside of the telescope’s optical tube. A 5 inch long threaded stainless steel shaft projects from the dovetail adapter. A 2.5 pound counterweight threads onto the shaft.

By sliding the dovetail adapter back and forth along the D-plate until the optical tube balances, and threading the counterweight closer to or further away from the optical tube, almost any accessory load can be balanced to reduce the strain of an unbalanced accessory load on the telescope drive motors.
