This Meade altazimuth pier is designed for permanent altazimuth installation in a two meter (seven foot) or larger observatory dome. The pier is 32 tall and 10 in diameter. This puts the eyepiece at an approximate height of 5 6 when the scope is pointed about 15° above the horizon. The pier is made of painted steel and weighs 225 pounds.
The base of the pier is a 0.50 thick circular steel plate thats 24 in diameter. Three 0.75 wide by 5° long slots on a 20 diameter circle are spaced 120° apart around the base to let you bolt the pier to your observatory pad. The top of the pier is a 0.50 thick circular steel plate thats 16 in diameter. Three 33/64 diameter holes on a 13.5 diameter circle are spaced 120° apart around the top plate let you bolt your 16 Meade telescope to the pier in an altazimuth configuration. |
