| This Losmandy counterweight system is used to balance heavy accessory loads on Celestron and Meade fork-mounted telescopes that use Losmandy Vixen-Series dovetail accessory plate. Some observers prefer to use the lighter weight Losmandy Vixen-Series accessories, rather than the heavier Losmandy D-Series, to keep the overall accessory weight down. The system has a dovetail adapter that clamps onto an optional Losmandy Vixen-Series dovetail accessory mounting plate that is attached to either the top or underside of the telescope’s optical tube. A 5 inch long threaded stainless steel shaft projects from the dovetail adapter. A 2.5 pound counterweight threads onto the shaft. By sliding the dovetail adapter back and forth along the Vixen-Series plate until the optical tube balances, and threading the counterweight closer to or further away from the optical tube, almost any accessory load can be balanced to reduce the strain of an unbalanced load on the telescope drive motors. |
