| This 7’ Celestron programming cable lets you connect your computer to your Celestron NexStar GPS or CGE telescope to upgrade the motor drive firmware. This lets you regularly update your scope’s control program to the latest version at no charge to take advantage of the features and performance enhancements being added all the time. This is not the same as a cable to control your scope from a PC or a laptop, and cannot be used for that purpose. It is strictly for upgrading your scope’s control program for enhanced performance. A separate cable is needed to control the scope in the field. Here's a link to the Celestron internet download site to let you determine if you have the latest firmware version. The site includes a free Firmware Programmer to download the new firmware to your computer (using either FTP or HTTP protocols) and transfer it to your scope, as well as all the latest control program versions. To use this cable and the download programs, you need a PC-based computer with either a DB9 serial port or a USB port with a USB to DB9 serial adapter. The computer needs to be running Microsoft Windows 98 or newer. Your existing NexStar GPS firmware must be version 3.03 or higher to apply the updates. There is no firmware version restriction on CGE scopes. |
