| The SBIG Quick Disconnect Accessory (QDA) allows you to easily rotate, remove, and replace your SBIG CCD camera head after it has been firmly attached to your telescope and brought to a good focus – without disturbing the focus. This lets you temporarily remove the camera head and replace it with a parfocal eyepiece for locating objects. When the eyepiece is removed and the camera again returned to the telescope, the camera is still in focus.
The quick disconnect works by simply squeezing two large spring-loaded rings together and placing them over a base ring that is attached to the rear cell of your catadioptric telescope. When you release the rings, they clamp onto the base ring and the camera stays put. The Quick Disconnect Accessory will work with any catadioptric telescope using a standard 2” rear cell thread. It will work with the following SBIG cameras: the STV, ST-5C, ST-237 (including Celestron PixCel cameras), ST-7, ST-8, ST-9, and ST-10.
The Quick Disconnect Accessory includes one base ring threaded to attach to the rear cell of a catadioptric telescope; two spring-loaded two-part Quick Disconnect Accessory ring sets (one for holding a camera; one for an eyepiece); one male-to-male T-thread camera adapter; one 1.25” eyepiece holder with T-threads; one 25mm 1.25” orthoscopic eyepiece; and one packet of four screws for attaching the Quick Disconnect to an ST-7/8/9/10 camera head. The male-to-male T-thread adapter lets you connect one of the QDA rings to an STV, ST-5C, ST-237, or PixCel camera. If you do not have an STV, ST-5C, ST-237, or PixCel camera, the four screws let you connect the QDA ring to the front of an SBIG ST-7/8/9/10 camera head with its 1.25” nosepiece removed.
The 1.25” eyepiece holder threads into the second QDA ring and holds the 25mm 1.25” orthoscopic eyepiece for visual use.
If you click on the feature image of the QDA below, the various parts of the Quick Disconnect are labeled. The base ring that is threaded to attach to the rear cell of a typical Schmidt-Cassegrain or catadioptric telescope is labeled A. Part B is the accessory ring for connecting to the CCD camera head. The four holes for connecting it to an ST-7/8/9/10 face plate are visible in the center of the accessory ring. Part C is the accessory ring that holds the 1.25” eyepiece holder and 25mm orthoscopic eyepiece for visual use. Part D is the male-to male thread adapter that threads into the center of Part B to hold smaller cameras such as the ST-5C, ST-237 and STV. If you use the male-to-male T-thread adapter on the ST-7/8/9/10 instead of the mounting holes, or if you attach the Quick Disconnect Accessory to the face plate of a CFW8 filter wheel, optional extension tubes will need to be added to the 25mm eyepiece barrel for the eyepiece to remain parfocal. |
