| This relay adapter box converts the electronic guiding relays of the SBIG ST-7/8/9/10/2000 self-guiding cameras into mechanical relays to protect the drive electronics of certain equatorial mounts during long exposure astrophotography. A supplied camera to adapter box cable provides the 12VDC needed to operate the relays. Most commercially available mounts (such as those from Software Bisque, Astro-Physics, Meade, and Celestron) do not require mechanical relays for guiding long exposure deep space photos. However, others (such as the classic Losmandy G-11), require that the SBIG camera be electrically isolated from the mount. If the camera’s guiding electronics are not isolated from the mount’s drive electronics, there is a possibility of damaging the mount’s electronics. This relay box provides complete electrical isolation between the camera and mount. If you are not sure if your mount requires such isolation, check with your mount manufacturer. |
