| This is a superior-quality 2” wide field eyepiece for the serious deep space explorer. Because of its long focal length, it is at its best with telescopes having a focal ratio of f/6 or longer (an f/6 scope gives it a 6.67mm exit pupil, about the largest most observers can fully utilize). You can use the calculator below to see just how wide the field will be with your particular scope. It is ideal for observing galaxy clusters, large emission and reflection nebulas, and nebula remnants. The field of view is so wide that you actually have to move your head from side to side to take it all in. The usable eye relief is a very long 31mm, allowing this 40mm to be used by eyeglass wearers with absolutely no vignetting of the field. The 40mm Super Wide is priced $100 less than competitive eyepieces with a similar field of view and less eye relief, making this eyepiece a very cost effective way to put big field, bright image, 2” eyepiece performance in your observing kit. It weighs a hefty 44 ounces, so use some care when installing it in a star diagonal. Make sure the diagonal is firmly tightened down so it doesn’t tilt unexpectedly when hit by the eyepiece weight. |
