This adapter can be used with a Sky & Earth spotting scope fitted with a Nikon 20/27x Sky & Earth eyepiece or 25/33x wide angle eyepiece. The rubber eyecup of the eyepiece is rolled back (as if for eyeglass use) and the external part of the #6921 attachment kit (part SSA-1, with the thumbscrew) is slipped over the eyepiece and threaded onto the spotting scope body using the threads around the eyepiece mount. This Coolpix adapter ring is threaded onto the internal portion of the attachment kit (part SSA-2), and the Coolpix adapter ring is threaded into the Coolpix 880 camera’s zoom lens. The camera/Coolpix adapter ring/attachment ring stack is slipped into the external part of the kit (SSA-1) already attached to the spotting scope. A thumbscrew in the SSA-1 tightens onto the SSA-2 and holds the camera in place. The thumbscrew also allows you to change the camera orientation from portrait to landscape in a matter of seconds.

When the camera is set at the extreme wide angle end of its zoom range, there may be some vignetting of the image (the image will be round and framed in black, rather than rectangular). In such cases, zoom out slightly to eliminate the vignetting.

The effective focal length of the spotting scope/eyepiece/Coolpix camera will depend on the eyepiece used and the zoom setting of the camera.
