The new Zeiss 7 x 42mm Victory FL combines the latest optical advances to create a new state-of-the-art low power/wide field binocular. It has a very wide 8.6° field and an excellent 6.5’ close focus that makes it a good choice for close-in woodland birding and butterfly work. Its wide 6mm exit pupil gives you very bright images in the low light of dusk, under overcast skies, or in shadowed woodlands. The large exit pupil also makes it easier to keep your eye centered in the exit pupil when observing from a pitching boat deck or a moving land vehicle. New LotuTec optical coatings repel external oil, rainwater, and salt spray, while O-ring sealing and nitrogen purging makes it fully waterproof and internally fogproof. The result of all this is clearer, sharper images in all extremes of weather, waves, and humidity, making the Zeiss 7x42 very useful for rainforest and pelagic birding.

The Victory’s unique and innovative Advanced Optics System (AOS) uses an environmentally-friendly thin lens technology to give you better optical performance in a lighter-weight body than ever before. Special extra-low dispersion fluoride glass (FL) elements in its four-lens super-achromat objectives provide outstanding edge definition and minimal color fringing.

Colors are true to life in the 7x42 Victory, bright and crisp. This Zeiss Victory has very low astigmatism, curvature of field, and barrel distortion. Its images stay remarkably sharp and usable to the very edges of the exceptional 8.6° field. Coated in durable black armor, sealed and nitrogen-purged to be waterproof and fogproof, the Zeiss 7 x 42mm Victory FL is truly a superb binocular that will take the worst climate extremes in stride. Whether you’re birding in shadowed woodlands or rainforests, viewing from salt spray-drenched shorelines or the deck of a boat, in bright sunlight or under foggy or overcast skies, the Zeiss 7 x 42mm Victory FL will reveal all the colorful detail that nature has to show you.

Features of this binocular . . .

  • Lightweight body: The body of this lightweight and rugged H-body roof prism binocular is made of die-cast magnesium. It is covered in noise- and shock-absorbing black rubber armor, with forest green armor available on special order. Ribs on the armored barrels, where the palms and fingers fall naturally, provide a sure grip in wet weather. The body is ergonomically designed for remarkably low weight, good balance, and easy handling.

  • Advanced Optics System design: Resolution, contrast, and color fidelity are all unsurpassed. The unique and innovative Advanced Optics System (AOS) provides extremely high brightness and edge sharpness. The system uses higher-transmission non-mirrored Abbe-Koenig image-erecting prisms (instead of conventional Pechan-type roof prisms that have light losses due to their aluminized or silvered reflecting surfaces). Abbe-Koenig prisms have about 5% higher light transmission than standard Pechan prisms. Combined with the system’s full multicoatings, these high transmission prisms give the Zeiss Victory FL greater than 90% total light transmission (up to 7% higher light throughput than other premium binoculars) for the highest light transmission of any binocular in its class. Special internal baffling also results in less stray light, yielding higher contrast. The four-element super-achromat objective lenses use new fluoride glass that contains neither lead nor arsenic, so production is environmentally friendly. The extra-low light dispersion of the fluoride glass gives fully-saturated and true-to-life colors. Lenses in this new optical design are also thinner than conventional lenses, which lowers overall weight.

  • Fully multicoated: All optical elements are fully multicoated with patented and proprietary Zeiss T* (T-Star) antireflection coatings for maximum light transmission.

  • Phase coatings: P* (P-Star) phase-correcting coatings on the image-erecting prisms provide very high contrast and resolution. This is particularly visible when looking sunwards, where more color and detail is clearly visible in the shadowed areas of backlit or silhouetted birds. Phase coatings are actually a Zeiss innovation – one that has been imitated, but never duplicated, by other binocular manufacturers.

  • Fully waterproof and fogproof: Nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof to a depth of 3 meters (7 feet) for a period of one day. The dry nitrogen filling makes the Victory FL internally fogproof in all humidity and temperature extremes. The inert nitrogen also prevents the internal formation of fungus in high humidity climates, such as rain forests. The Victory FL is designed to operate reliably over a wide temperature and humidity range – from Attu to Death Valley, from the Serengeti Plains to Costa Rica.

  • LotuTec lens coatings: All external optical surfaces (eyepieces and objective lenses) are treated with permanent “LotuTec” coatings. These special hydrophobic (water-repelling) coatings are so smooth, even at the molecular level, that water can find virtually no grip on the lens surfaces. This causes the condensation from rain, fog, snow, or your own breath to form in much smaller droplets than on standard optical coatings. Smaller droplets scatter less light, resulting in higher light transmission and a clearer image. Oil, dirt, and grease are similarly repelled, making for simplified, streak-free cleaning.

  • Good close focus: The 6.5’ close focus is very good, making this an excellent binocular for butterflies and close-in birding.

  • Very wide field: The field of view is an excellent 8.6°. That’s a field a full 450’ wide at 1000 yards, and a still very wide 18” at a woodland birding range of 10 feet. Even at its butterfly-friendly 6.5’ close focus the field is just shy of one foot wide, an excellent field for such a close distance.

  • Twist-up eyecups: The twist-up rubber-rimmed eyecups have four clickstops to let you customize the good 16mm of eye relief to match your eyesight. Vignetting is minor for those who must wear eyeglasses while observing.

  • Intelligently Tuned Focusing: The Intelligently Tuned Focusing system takes less than one and a quarter turns of the comfortably-large focus knob to move the internal center focus from a 6.5’ near focus to the horizon. Pulling back on the large ribbed focus knob reveals the continuously-variable diopter correction collar. Turn the focus knob to adjust the diopter to match your eyesight, then push forward on the focus knob to lock in the diopter correction.

  • Included accessories: The Zeiss Victory FL comes with a water-shedding padded Cordura nylon case that has both a removable wide shoulder strap and belt loops for no-hands carrying. There is a zippered mesh pocket inside the case to hold car keys, credit cards, etc. Tethered, but removable, objective lens covers are standard, as is an eyepiece rainguard. The wide cloth-covered neoprene neck strap is uniquely contoured to fit comfortably around your neck without chafing during extended use.

  • Lifetime warranty: This genuine Zeiss import qualifies for the unique Zeiss Lifetime Transferable Warranty available only to registered owners of Zeiss products that have been legally imported by Carl Zeiss USA. Click on the “Warranty Information” link to the left and then click on the “Zeiss” link in the warranty page that opens up for the full details of the Zeiss Lifetime Warranty.
