These 26mm clear aperture 1.25” Meade optical glass color filters are designed for use with the Meade ETX-70AT 70mm refractor and other similar small aperture telescopes. Because of their relatively high light transmission they are generally not suitable for use with the brighter images of larger scopes (4” and up in aperture). They increase the image contrast and resolution on the Moon and planets and reduce the glare of the full or near-full Moon with small scopes.

The #3200 Set includes the unlabeled equivalents of a #ND-3 neutral density filter (50% light transmission), a #8 light yellow filter (83% transmission), a “light blue” filter, and a “light red” filter. The filter described as being “light red” in Meade’s literature would normally be a fairly low 25% transmission light red #23A if it was actually “light red” as described. However, it appears to be closer in color to a 46% transmission #21 orange filter, which has much the same optical effect as a light red filter. A 46% transmission filter would be more in line with the transmission figures of the other filters in the set than a 25% transmission filter, and we suspect it is actually an orange filter. We’ll call it a light red filter to agree with Meade’s literature, but we wouldn’t be annoyed if you called it orange.

Likewise, the “light blue” filter described in the instruction sheet packed with the filters should be a 73% light transmission #82A filter to truly be called a “light blue” filter, and it originally was a light blue filter. However, it appears recently to have been changed to the unmarked equivalent of a #80A medium blue filter (30% transmission). We will continue to call it a “light blue” filter to keep with Meade’s literature, but you should be aware of its recent light transmission change to a darker shade of blue.

Each filter threads into the barrels of all 1.25” Meade MA, PL,, SP, and WA eyepieces and is packed in a separate plastic case for secure storage.
