| This Motofocus consists of a miniature variable speed DC motor that turns the Celestron focus knob, a mounting bracket, a hand control, and a coiled power cord.
The focus motor is installed by removing two of the three screws holding the Celestron manual focuser in place. Spare screws are provided in case you drop one of the scope’s screws. The coupling tube of the Motofocus electric focuser is pushed onto the telescope’s manual focus knob. The tube will grip the telescope’s rubber-ribbed manual focus knob firmly. The Motofocus is turned until two holes in the focuser mounting bracket line up with the two holes that held the manual focuser screws you removed. The screws you removed are reinstalled through the holes in the focuser mounting bracket to hold the bracket in place.
The coiled cord connects the motor and the supplied hand control box. The control box contains a 9-volt battery that will power the focuser for 6 to 8 months of normal use. Pushbuttons on the hand box control the direction of focuser travel. A slide switch on the hand control gives you a choice of two focusing speeds. If either pushbutton is held down longer than two seconds, the motor will shift to a third very high speed until the button is released.
The coupling tube that slips over the scope focus knob transmits the rotation of the Motofocus geared drive to the rubber-ribbed telescope focus knob to adjust the scope focus. The smooth interior of the coupling tube acts as a slip clutch to prevent damage if the normal telescope focuser travel is exceeded. The complete unit, including hand control with battery installed, weighs only 6.4 ounces.
