| The Celestron 47009 deluxe multi-function weather station and quartz digital clock reads and displays the indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity in either Fahrenheit or Centigrade, the barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, rainfall totals, predicts the weather for the upcoming 12 to 24 hours, and much more.
A built-in barometer in the Celestron 47009 measures and displays the atmospheric pressure and uses its trend to forecast the weather with icons for Sunny/Partly Cloudy/Cloudy/Rainy/Stormy. The 47009 weather station predicts the weather conditions for the next 12 to 24 hours with about 70% accuracy.
The barometer both displays the actual current barometric pressure and has a pressure history that shows the barometric pressures for the previous 12 hours, so you can see how quickly the pressure has been rising or falling. If you do not live near sea level, your altitude must be entered into the system when you first set up your weather station for maximum barometric pressure accuracy, which is easily done with a few pushes of up and down buttons.
The Celestron 47009 will display the heat index (a combination of the temperature and humidity that tells you how hot it feels, not just how hot it is) so you can plan your outdoor daytime activities. It will also display the dew point, valuable information for an astrophotographer planning an evening’s imaging session. There is an ice alert icon to tell you when the formation of ice is imminent. The station will display the current wind chill and sound an alarm when the wind chill exceeds your present limit.
Its battery-operated wireless remote anemometer sensor has a 328’ range, while the rain gauge has a 164’ range. Icons will appear in the weather station display when battery power is running low at the remote sensors.
The anemometer will show you the current wind speed and average wind speed and direction over the past two minutes, and the highest gust in the previous ten minutes. A wind gust alarm will sound when wind gusts exceed your pre-set maximum. The anemometer will read wind speeds in your choice of measurement units: 0 to 67 mph; 0 to 108 km/h; 0 to 30 m/s; 0 to 58 knots; or 0 to 11 on the Beaufort scale.
The rain gauge will store and display the daily rainfall (up to the last six days as well as the current day); the weekly rainfall (up to the last six weeks as well as the current week); and the monthly rainfall (up to the last six months as well as the current month). The rain gauge will read from 0 to 9999mm (0 to 394 inches).
The free-standing or wall-mounted Celestron 47009 has a programmable memory that will display the minimum and maximum temperature, humidity, heat index, dew point, wind speed, and wind chill readings.
The digital quartz clock has a built-in alarm with ten minute snooze function. Its attractive large LCD display is easy to read day or night. You can select a 12 or 24 hour time format, with a calendar that shows the year, month, date, and day of the week. You can also set up a second time zone (GMT, for example, or the local time of a distant relative) that can be accessed at the touch of a button.
The 47009 requires six user-supplied AA type batteries to power the main unit and four user-supplied AA batteries for the remote sensors.
The indoor operating temperature range of the Celestron 47009 is from +32° F to +122° F (0° C to +50° C), while the outdoor range is from -4° F to +140° F (-20° C to +60° C), with an accuracy of +/- 0.5° C. The indoor/outdoor relative humidity range is 20% to 99%, with an accuracy of +/- 1.5%.
The indoor weather station display unit weighs 15 ounces and measures approximately 4.5" tall by 7.6" wide and 1.1" deep. The anemometer weighs 9 ounces and measures approximately 14.3" tall by 7.8" wide and 8" deep. The rain gauge weighs 6 ounces and measures approximately 3.3" tall by 2.3" wide and 5.8" deep.
