| This Losmandy HD (Heavy Duty) adjustable height field tripod is normally supplied as the standard tripod with the Losmandy G11 German equatorial mount, although it can also be used with the smaller Losmandy GM-8 and older G9 mounts. It is available here separately as a replacement for a lost or damaged tripod, or as an extra stability upgrade for an existing GM-8 or G9 mount head or one bought separately.
The Losmandy HD tripod is designed for use with Losmandy mounts only, with three threaded holes in the sides of its center column that match holes in the G11 mount’s equatorial head. The holes allow the G11 head to be securely bolted to the tripod. In addition, the tripod head has machined brackets designed to hold the G11 mount’s Digital Drive Unit control box at a convenient angle and height.
The tripod’s is shipped disassembled into three two-section legs, six leg clamps, and a center column. The leg clamps are attached to the end of each tripod leg. These clamps will remain on the legs and will not be taken off again. The legs slide onto the center column and are locked into place by tightening the large hand-tighten knobs on the top leg clamps. The adjustable height inner leg segments can be set for a tripod height range of 33" to 48", measuring from ground level to the top of the tripod. Large hand-tighten knobs on the lower leg clamps lock the tripod legs at the desired height.
The made-in-the-USA machined aluminum tripod has stainless steel hardware and will support a maximum combined mount and telescope weight of 300 pounds. The tripod weighs 35 pounds.
