| This combination focal reducer and field flattener consists of a four-element multicoated 41mm lens in a metal cell. It threads on to the rear cell of any Meade 8" through 16" Schmidt-Cassegrain or Ritchey-Chrétien telescope, as well as to any Celestron 5" through 14" Schmidt-Cassegrain. It will also work with Meade APO refractors and the 7" Maksutov, but its field flattening effect may degrade the edge performance of these scopes as it tries to correct a field curvature problem they do not have. The reducer is physically incompatible with Meade ETX Maksutovs. The reducer/corrector duplicates the rear cell thread of the telescope, allowing you to attach all standard rear cell visual and photographic accessories. It reduces the telescope’s focal ratio by a factor of 0.63. An f/10 telescope is converted to an f/6.3, while an older Meade f/6.3 telescope is converted to an f/4. An f/8 Ritchey-Chrétien becomes an f/5 system. Simultaneously, the 41mm-diameter lens system helps to flatten the field, significantly improving edge-of-field corrections. The f/6.3 focal reducer enables a reduction of photographic exposure times by about 50%, while producing an actual field diameter of 1.5" at the film plane. The reducer/corrector comes with full instructions and with plastic dust caps for both sides of the lens assembly. A rubber grip ring on the body allows for easy installation of the reducer on your scope, even when you are wearing gloves.
