| The Orion Atlas German equatorial mounts are supplied with two 11 lb. counterweights as standard equipment. These weights can typically balance a payload weighing 25 to 30 lbs. If your expected total payload is heavier than this, you can add this extra counterweight to balance the heavier load. A total of three of these counterweights (the two that came with the mount and one additional) is the maximum recommended with the Atlas mount, to balance its maximum 40 lb. payload. This counterweight can also be used with the Orion Sirius mounts. The 30 lb. payload capacity Sirius mounts come with one 11 lb. counterweight as standard equipment. This single weight can balance payloads in the 12 to 15 lb. range. If your maximum Sirius mount payload is higher than this, one of these optional counterweights can be added to balance loads up to 30 lbs. on the Sirius mount. The weight is painted grey to match the color of the mount. It is bored to fit the counterweight shafts of the Atlas and Sirius mounts. A large no-tool knob locks the weight in place on the counterweight shaft.
