| The Meade LX80 tri-mode Multi-Mount (40 lb. maximum payload German equatorial, 40 lb. maximum payload single OTA altazimuth, or 70 lb. maximum payload dual OTA altazimuth mode) is supplied with one 11 lb. counterweight as standard equipment. This single weight can typically balance a payload weighing up to 15 lbs. in the German equatorial and single OTA modes.
If your expected total payload is heavier than this, you can add one or two of these extra counterweights to balance the heavier load. One extra counterweight will balance a 15 to 30 lb. payload, while two extra counterweights will be needed to balance the mount’s maximum payload capacity of 40 lbs. A total of three of these counterweights (the one that came with the mount and two additional) is the maximum recommended with the LX80 Multi-Mount.
This 11 lb. weight is machined steel, with a single large no-tool knob to lock the weight in place on the counterweight shaft.
