The standard Meade Series 5000 counterweight system is used to balance varying accessory loads on a Meade LX90 or LX200 telescope. It has two three pound counterweights threaded singly or together onto a dovetail adapter. The adapter clamps onto a Meade Series 5000 dovetail mounting plate attached to the scope’s optical tube and slides back and forth along the dovetail plate to balance the optical tube and accessories.

However, in the case of a very heavy accessory load, additional balancing help may be needed. This extra three pound weight is available to thread onto the counterweight system in addition to the two standard weights to help balance those extra-heavy loads.
