| The Celestron 47011 four-color VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) multi-function weather station and quartz digital clock reads and displays the indoor and outdoor temperature in either Fahrenheit or Centigrade and the indoor and outdoor humidity, predicts the weather for the upcoming 12 to 24 hours, and much more. The multi-color display show the information in bright colors and icons that make it easy to read and understand at a glance.
The indoor display unit is AC powered, with a small battery backup (LR44 batteries supplied) that retains the time, alarm clock settings, and weather information in case the power goes out at your house during the night. The brightness of the display can be set for four different levels, off, low, high, and auto. The “Auto" mode uses a built-in light sensor to automatically adjust the display brightness for optimum visibility. In addition to showing the temperature and humidity numerically, colorful bar graphs (red for temperature and blue for humidity) change as the information changes.
A built-in barometer in the Celestron 47011 measures the atmospheric pressure and uses its trend to forecast the weather with icons for Sunny/Partly Cloudy/Cloudy/Rainy/Stormy. The 47011 weather station predicts the weather conditions for the next 12 to 24 hours with about 70% accuracy.
The barometer does not display the actual barometric pressure, but has a pressure history bar chart that shows the barometric pressures for the previous 12 hours, so you can see how quickly the pressure has been rising or falling.
The Celestron 47011 will display the heat index (a combination of the temperature and humidity that tells you how hot it feels, not just how hot it is) so you can plan your outdoor daytime activities. It will also display the dew point, valuable information for an astrophotographer planning an evening’s imaging session.
Its battery-operated wireless remote thermometer and humidity sensor has a 100’ range. A display on the face of the remote temperature sensor shows both the temperature and humidity at the remote location.
Since the remote sensor both transmits the local temperature and humidity to the indoor station and displays both figures for an observer at its location, inside a telescope dome would be an ideal location for a second sensor. You can keep track of conditions inside your dome when it is not in use as well as keep track of the temperature and humidity at the scope while you are observing.
The free-standing Celestron 47011 has a programmable memory that will display the minimum and maximum temperature, humidity, heat index, and dew point.
The weather station’s digital quartz clock has a built-in alarm with five minute snooze function. Its attractive large LCD display is easy to read day or night. You can select a 12 or 24 hour time format. It also has a Moon phase display, a useful reminder for amateur astronomer deep space observers.
The 47011 has a 7.5 volt AC adapter (supplied) to power the main unit and two LR44 watch batteries (also supplied) to power the main unit backup memory. The wireless remote sensor uses two user-supplied AAA batteries.
The indoor operating temperature range of the Celestron 47011 is from +32° F to +122° F (0° C to +50° C), while the outdoor range is from -4° F to +140° F (-20° C to +60° C).
The indoor weather station display unit weighs 10 ounces and measures approximately 8.4" tall by 2.8" wide and 2.5" deep. The remote temperature/humidity sensor weighs 3 ounces and measures approximately 3.3" tall by 2.5" wide and 1" deep.
