| The Wireless AutoStar II hand control replaces the existing corded hand control on your Meade LX200GPS or RCX400 telescope to let you operate your scope wirelessly from over a hundred feet away. Just plug the compact receiver of the Wireless AutoStar II into the handbox port of your telescope’s drive base, turn on the Wireless AutoStar II hand control, and you have complete remote control of every feature of your telescope. At star parties you can operate your telescope while other people observe through it, without worrying about people getting tangled in your hand control cord. If you are imaging at home, you can operate from inside your house without worrying about having to open up multiple windows on your computer to control your CCD camera and your scope simultaneously. And you can scare the daylights out of people at star parties by having your scope suddenly come to life and aim at them wherever they move when there is seemingly no one controlling the scope. The system uses radio frequency signals instead of infrared, so you don't have to be in direct line of sight for proper operation. While the maximum effective range is “over 100 feet," the Wireless AutoStar II has been used as far as 300 feet away from a scope with no signal loss. Each controller uses a separate communication code so that astronomers observing together using Wireless AutoStar II controllers will not interfere with each other. There are 65,000 individual codes available, so the chance of your hand control being on the same frequency as another control at a star party is a vanishingly small 0.000015% – 1 in 65,000. The Wireless AutoStar II features an enhanced ergonomic design for more hand-held comfort. The adjustable brightness red back-illuminated buttons have improved tactile response and send instantaneous commands to the telescope. Anyone familiar with the corded version of the AutoStar II will easily master the new 20-button arrangement of the Wireless AutoStar II. All of the standard functions of the corded AutoStar II hand control are included in this new wireless version. It has the same menus and the same familiar two-line, sixteen alphanumeric character scrolling red LED backlit display as the corded version. The black hand control measures 7.5" x 3.25" x 1.125" and weighs only 5.5 ounces. It has a built-in red LED map light and an on-off switch to conserve battery life. The Wireless AutoStar II is powered by 4 AA batteries (not supplied). When used in the field, we recommend taking along a spare set of batteries in case you run out of power in the middle of the night. This system is designed to replace the corded hand control, but we suggest you also pack your existing corded hand control in your observing accessories kit if you are taking your scope to a remote location – just in case you forget to pack spare batteries.
