This Astro-Tech 26mm Titan is medium power super wide angle 2" eyepiece with a very wide 70° field at a very economical price. It provides “picture window onto space" images with any telescope type. If you have a 2" star diagonal or focuser, it will nearly double the area of the field of view visible through the 25mm or 26mm eyepiece that comes standard with most new telescopes. The calculator below will let you see just how wide the field will be with your particular scope.

For example, with an 8" f/10 catadioptric it will give you a wide 0.91° actual field (0.65 square degrees in area) at 76.9x. This compares with the 0.65° actual field (0.33 square degrees in area) that you get at the same power with the typical 26mm Plössl supplied with most such scopes. The 26mm Astro-Tech Titan is a clear upgrade from the so-so eyepieces provided with most new catadioptrics.

With Dobsonians and short focal length refractors, the 26mm Titan is a superb low power eyepiece. With a 1143mm focal length 10" f/4.5 Dobsonian, for example, it provides 44x, a bright 5.8mm exit pupil, and a wide 1.6° field of view that’s over three times as wide as the Moon. It takes an object nearly six and a half minutes to cross that field of view, giving multiple observers plenty of time to take a look before you have to manually re-aim the scope. The 26mm Titan is a great eyepiece for family observing and star parties with a Dobsonian.

With a small refractor like the 80mm f/6.8 Astro-Tech AT-80ED, the 26mm Titan provides a huge 3.3° field at 21.2x. That makes it ideal for very wide field views of galaxy clusters, the larger nebulas, open clusters, and more.

Its 13mm eye relief is quite reasonable for this focal length, although it can somewhat limit the field for eyeglass wearers. Since the Astro-Tech Titan field is substantially wider to begin with than most other eyepieces in this price range, most eyeglass wearers won’t find the minor vignetting to be a drawback. Those who don’t wear glasses will see a huge field at only a fraction the cost of a more exotic super wide angle eyepiece.
