It has a dovetail adapter that clamps onto an optional Meade Series 5000 dovetail accessory mounting plate that is attached to either the top or underside of an LX90 or LX200 telescope’s optical tube. A large no-tool knob locks the adapter in place on the dovetail and lets you quickly move the counterweight system fore and aft on the dovetail to balance changing accessory loads. A 5" long threaded stainless steel shaft projects from the dovetail adapter. Two three pound counterweights thread singly or simultaneously onto the shaft.

By sliding the dovetail adapter back and forth along the dovetail plate until the optical tube balances, and threading the counterweight(s) closer to or further away from the optical tube, almost any accessory load can be balanced to reduce the strain of an unbalanced accessory load on the telescope drive motors. If needed, an extra three pound weight is available as an option to help balance very heavy accessory loads.
