This JMI Wheeley Bar gives you an easy way to roll your completely assembled Meade 16" LightBridge Dobsonian from your garage to a backyard patio or driveway observing site. It has 10" all-terrain pneumatic wheels and a pull handle that let you maneuver your scope even over soft, rough, or uneven ground. It also lets you travel to dark sky observing sites, assemble your scope conveniently near where your car is parked, then move the assembled scope to the actual observing site away from the car. You don’t have to take your scope’s secondary mirror cage, mirror box, truss tubes, and rocker box/ground board assembly out in separate pieces and assemble them in the dark. Simply roll your fully assembled telescope to your observing site and start observing.

While this easily-assembled Wheeley Bar is designed for the 16" Meade LightBridge Dob, it is adaptable to any other Dob with a 28" to 32" diameter ground board. The Wheeley Bar raises your Dob 4-5" off the ground. While the ground board of your scope rests on the hoop-like Wheeley Bar base, the three rubber feet of your Dob’s ground board slip down inside the open base to keep your scope from sliding while being moved.

When you’ve moved your scope to your chosen observing spot, three large handles at the corners of the Wheeley Bar let you screw threaded leveling screws down into the ground to jack the Wheeley Bar and your scope slightly up off the ground and level it. This keeps it from moving or vibrating while you observe.

The four large 10" diameter pneumatic wheels of this Wheeley Bar (a single wheel at each end of the rear axle and a more closely-spaced pair attached to the narrower pull handle front axle) let you maneuver with ease over soft or rough surfaces such as grass, dirt and gravel, as well as on uneven hard surfaces such as flagstone paving. The dual wheels attached to the pull handle distribute the weight of the scope more evenly when maneuvering in tight quarters. This reduces the possibility of tipping during sharp turns. The pull handle locks the front wheels when not in use. Care should be used when moving the complete system, even on smooth surfaces. Be certain the ground board’s feet are inserted into the Wheeley Bar’s receptacles. Move the system using the pull handle. If extra help is needed in soft or particularly rough terrain, the assistant should pull or push the system only by gripping the scope’s rocker box below the center of gravity. Do not push the top of the scope to get it moving, particularly on uneven surfaces. Astronomics and JMI are not responsible for incorrect loading or operation.
