There is no mechanical adjustment of the position of the Barlow lens within the chrome barrel. The position is adjusted manually by pushing the lens back and forth within the barrel with your forefinger until the desired magnification is achieved. Be sure to cover your finger with a handkerchief or cloth before adjusting the position of the lens to avoid touching the lens surface and leaving fingerprints.

The Meade #127 variable power Barlow is physically rather long (at 5.3") and is designed to work primarily in the focuser of a reflector telescope. It can be used in a refractor or catadioptric telescope if placed in front of a 1.25" star diagonal, which will markedly increase its effective magnification. It can be used in a refractor or reflector’s 1.25" star diagonal, but will hold the eyepiece quite a distance above the diagonal, making for a possibly inconvenient viewing position. Use in a 2" star diagonal with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter is not recommended, as the 3.75" long chrome barrel of the Barlow may extend down into your diagonal far enough to contact the diagonal mirror and scratch it.
