| This premium heavy-duty case is designed primarily to hold the Celestron CGE go-to equatorial mount head and pier. It can also hold a NexStar 8 or 8i telescope, or any telescope of a similar size, although these scopes are a snug fit because of the case’s relatively shallow depth. The case is injection-molded of an ultra high impact structural copolymer that makes it extremely strong and durable. It is unbreakable, dustproof, chemical resistant, and corrosion proof. It has a 1/4" (6.4 mm) neoprene o-ring around the lid and seven ABS latches for a watertight seal. It includes an automatic purge valve for quick equalization after changes in atmospheric pressure (a trip to a mountaintop observatory, for example). It is equipped with 2" (5 cm) hard rubber transport wheels, a retractable extension handle, and multiple fold-down carrying handles. The case is made in the USA and is not a lightweight and inexpensively made import. The very durable high-density foam filling the interior of the case is not precut to the size and shape of a telescope, but instead is die-cut in cubes that can be removed for custom fitting. For storing the CGE mount and pier, you should use the die-cut foam that comes in the original CGE mount packaging. The inside dimensions are 9.25" x 17.75" x 29" and the case weighs 27.5 lbs. Because the case is relatively shallow, the NexStar 8i scope is a snug fit front to back. If you are contemplating buying this case to hold a non-NexStar scope, be certain that the scope thickness will fit the internal case dimensions.
