The Sky-Watcher Quantum 150 apochromatic triplet from Celestron uses a lens of the finest extra-low dispersion (ED) glass available, S-FPL53, flanked by two carefully chosen mating lenses of premium Schott glass. The trio delivers crisp, high-fidelity views of planetary, lunar and deep-space celestial objects. The views are unmarred by the faint but annoying halo of unfocused violet light (chromatic aberration) often seen around bright stars and solar system objects in other large aperture FPL-53 doublet refractors and triplet refractors that only use an FPL-51 ED element in their optical system.
The 150mm Sky-Watcher Quantum triplet utilizes the most modern optical glasses and fabricating techniques to deliver the ultimate in high-fidelity astronomical observing and imaging. Each lens element is individually inspected for purity and absence of striations and other image-degrading imperfections. Each element is then pitch polished to exacting standards of optical fabrication and performance by highly skilled opticians and tested on an optical laser bench to rigidly controlled optical standards. The result is a high-quality, diffraction-limited optical system performing to the theoretical limits of its aperture.
The Sky-Watcher Quantum 150 has the premium high contrast/high resolution optical performance you need to let you use it as the heart of your observing and imaging system. It will work well on most medium duty equatorial mounts, such as the Celestron CGEM Deluxe or Losmandy G11, although serious long-exposure astrophotography might require a mount upgrade to a Celestron CGE Pro or similar mount for optimum results.
Features of this telescope . . . - Apochromatic ED triplet refractor optics: 150mm (5.91") aperture, 1050mm focal length, f/7 focal ratio. The optics use two mating elements of premium Schott Glass, from one of the world’s most-respected glass manufacturers. The ED element is precision-polished from high grade S-FPL53 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass.
- Fully multicoated optics: Each air-to-glass surface in the Sky-Watcher Quantum 150 triplet objective lens has high transmission antireflection multicoatings on all air-to-glass surfaces for high light transmission, minimal light scatter, and excellent contrast.
- Thread-on field flattener: When you are ready for imaging, the Quantum 150 includes a field flattening lens that transforms your scope into the Ultimate Imaging Instrument. Using optical grade Schott glass and multicoatings on all air-to-glass lens surfaces, the field flattener provides sharp, in-focus stars across a large fully-illuminated 43mm image circle. The field flattener is compatible with optional M48 camera adapter rings.
- Internal light baffles: Six contrast-enhancing internal light baffles in the tube and a specially darkened tube interior provide dark sky backgrounds and high contrast.
- Carbon fiber optical tube and lens shade: Made of light weight/high strength woven carbon fiber-reinforced composite material with extremely low thermal expansion characteristics to reduce the possibility of temperature-related focus changes during long exposure imaging. Die-cast and machined aluminum front and rear cells. The 39" long dent- and scratch-resistant carbon fiber tube is virtually indestructible. The supplied retractable carbon fiber dew shield (with aluminum dust cover) slows the formation of dew on the lens in cold weather to extend your undisturbed observing time. It also improves the contrast, similar to the effect of the lens shade on a camera lens, when observing during the day or when there is excessive ambient light at night, such as a neighbor’s backyard security light.
- Dual speed 2" linear bearing focuser: The precision-made and mechanically ultra-smooth, backlash-free, linear bearing focuser has a giant 3.4" diameter drawtube with a 2" accessory adapter. This rotatable focuser offers dual-speed focusing and has an engraved focusing scale. There are two coarse focusing knobs. The right knob has a smaller concentric knob with 10:1 reduction gear microfine focusing. This provides exceptionally precise image control during high magnification visual observing and critical DSLR or CCD imaging. The large focus knobs have ribbed gripping surfaces so they are easy to operate, even while wearing gloves or mittens in cold weather. Lock knobs lets you adjust the tension on the drawtube to accommodate varying eyepiece/photo accessory loads, as well as firmly lock in a photographic focus.
- 2" dielectric star diagonal: The supplied standard equipment 2" mirror star diagonal of the Quantum 150 slips into the focuser drawtube’s 2" eyepiece/accessory holder. The 2" diagonal has 99% reflectivity dielectric mirror coatings for high light transmission. A supplied 1.25" accessory adapter slips into the 2" diagonal to let you also use 1.25" eyepieces. The 1.25" accessory adapter can also be inserted directly into the 2" accessory holder on the focuser drawtube to let you use a 1.25" image erecting diagonal, or 1.25" photographic accessories.
- Supplied eyepiece: A 2" 28mm 82° field Celestron Luminos eyepiece (38x) is standard equipment.
- Finderscope: The Sky-Watcher Quantum 150 comes with a 9 x 50mm right-angle correct-image finderscope that is fully multicoated to insure maximum brightness and contrast. The finder shows the star field in its correct upright and right-reading orientation, as it appears to the naked eye and on star charts.
- Mounting dovetail: The Sky-Watcher Quantum 150 apo from Celestron has dual hinged split-ring tube rings and a CGE/Losmandy “D-plate" style dovetail that fits directly into the Losmandy-style dovetail slot on the head of many of the most popular medium (and larger) capacity German equatorial mounts, such as the Celestron CGEM DX and CGE Pro, the Losmandy G-11, etc.
- Shipping/storage case: The scope comes in foam-fitted aluminum-clad shipping/storage case.
- Two-year warranty: The Sky-Watcher Quantum 150 triplet apo from Celestron is protected by a two-year limited warranty against flaws in materials and workmanship.
