The 30mm Takahashi is an excellent low to medium power eyepiece for scanning open clusters, picking up subtle detail in low surface brightness emission and reflection nebulas, etc. It provides a huge 6.6mm exit pupil with an f/4.5 Dobsonian reflector for scanning the Milky Way star clouds in Sagittarius and nebular remnants like the Veil. It’s about the longest focal length eyepiece you can use with a Dobsonian without wasting some of the scope’s light-gathering capability by having an exit pupil larger than your eye can dilate to accept.
