| This very economical Celestron observing package includes a lightweight and easy-to-hold 10x50mm Celestron binocular with a wide field of view; a green laser pointer for showing your friends the way from object to object in the sky (similar lasers cost up to $99.95 elsewhere); and a 5-LED red flashlight that will keep you on the right path when walking in the dark. Just add your favorite sky map or set of star charts and you’re ready to explore the heavens.
The binocular is the Celestron UpClose 10x50mm porro prism. This high power binocular weighs only 25 ounces, so it’s easy to hand hold for long periods while you enjoy the skies. It has a wide 7° field of view (14 times as wide as the full Moon!) that’s great for sweeping the star clouds in Sagittarius, viewing open star clusters and brighter nebulas, the Moon, and more. The big 50mm objective lenses of the UpClose gather more than 50 times as much light as your eyes, revealing nebulas and galaxies too faint to see with your bare eye. In fact, the UpClose shows you stars as faint as 11th magnitude, only 1/10,000th as bright as the faintest star you can see without a binocular or telescope.
Of course, you can also use the UpClose for more than just stargazing. Use it during the day for football games and other sporting events, keeping an eye on nature from afar, and more.
The 10x50mm UpClose is rubber armored for a comfortable grip and water resistant so that unexpected light showers won’t be a problem. The BK7 optics are fully coated with antireflection materials for images that are bright and contrasty. You get a soft carrying case and a two-year warranty. The UpClose even is tripod adaptable so you can mount it on a camera tripod using an optional tripod adapter for hours of hands-free observing.
The green Celestron laser is perfect for pointing out astronomical objects in the night sky for people so they can examine them close up with the UpClose binocular. An optional set of star charts will show you hundreds of fascinating celestial objects you can point out for your friends or family with the laser pointer.
The pointer’s green laser beam is 20x to 30x brighter and more visible than a red laser beam. The <5mW beam reflects off of microscopic dust and other particles in the air that make it visible, even on the clearest night. The beam reaches from 15,000 to 25,000 ft. (depending on the atmospheric conditions) and seems to reach all the way up to the stars. The laser pointer is designed for short-duration use (less than one minute at a time) with a spring-loaded momentary contact on-off button. It has an aluminum body that weighs just 2.7 ounces, complete with 2AAA supplied alkaline batteries (battery life is 2 to 4 hours of normal usage). The laser pointer is only 9/16" (14.3mm) in diameter x 5-7/8" (149.2mm) in length. Like the UpClose binocular, the laser pointer has a 2-year limited warranty.
The last item in this special-value kit is a compact red LED Celestron flashlight for use when the Sun is down and the stars are out. This 5-LED flashlight will preserve your night vision when reading star charts under the stars. It’s also good for nighttime hiking, hunting, and other activities where white light is distracting. The flashlight uses 3 AAA batteries (user supplied). Its durable aluminum housing is water, shock, and corrosion resistant. It has a wrist lanyard and weighs just 3.5 ounces with batteries. It measures a compact 11/16" (27mm) in diameter and 4.5" (114.3mm) in length. Like the UpClose binocular and the green laser pointer, this Celestron 5-LED red flashlight is protected by a 2-year limited warranty.
Bought separately, the three Celestron components retail for over $150.
