| The optical performance of most reflector telescopes can be optimized by collimating, or aligning, the telescope’s optics on a regular basis. This is particularly important if you take your scope to a dark sky site, as the trip will often jar the mirrors slightly out of alignment, no matter how carefully you pack the scope for the trip. This very simple tool allows you to quickly line up the primary and diagonal mirrors of your scope by eye to get the sharpest lunar and planetary images. Good collimation will also help you split close binary stars more easily. The tool works in a 1.25" focuser (or 2" focuser with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter) and cannot be used with a telescope that uses 0.965" eyepieces. The tool comes with an illustrated four-page instruction sheet that will show you exactly how to collimate your reflector optics for the best performance.
