| This short focal length Astro-Tech 6mm Long Eye Relief eyepiece is superb for comfortable medium to medium high power lunar and planetary viewing with short focal length refractors and fast focal ratio/short focal length reflectors. It has a very flat field that keeps small details sharply in focus from one edge of its 55° field of view to the other, making it an exceptional choice for resolving globular clusters. The Astro-Tech’s very high contrast is excellent for seeing faint low contrast lunar and planetary details, and for seeing detail in planetary nebulas with these short focal length scopes.
The 6mm focal length of this Astro-Tech Long Eye Relief eyepiece is starting to get into the range of being more or less regularly useful with long focal length refractors, reflectors, or catadioptric scopes under good seeing conditions. While this eyepiece can perform well with a long focal length/long focal ratio scope, don’t expect it to do so every night. Average seeing conditions (the kind you’ll experience most nights) will still limit its performance.
