| Meade’s set of three vibration isolation pads typically reduce telescope tripod vibration times to less than one second, allowing undisturbed viewing sooner. Telescope vibrations are caused by windy conditions, by ground vibrations (from people walking near the scope or nearby traffic), by an undersized or unsteady mount or tripod, or even by the simple act of touching the scope to focus. They result in reduced image quality, as your high-powered images are blurred as they dance around in the eyepiece until the normal telescope vibrations damp out to zero. The Meade pads consist of a hard molded tripod leg cup that’s isolated in the center of a hard molded ground cup by an elastomeric vibration-absorbing material. The pads fit between the bottom of the tripod legs and the ground to isolate the tripod from direct ground contact and soak up vibrations. The pads are roughly triangular in shape, with the Meade logo at one vertex. The pads should be placed under the tripod legs so that the Meade logo points outwards. The Meade isolation pads work on any hard surface – grass, dirt, concrete, asphalt, wood, etc. For best results, the rubber feet on the bottom of your tripod legs should be removed before placing the legs of the tripod onto the vibration suppression pads.
