| The Zeiss Diascope 30x/40x wide field spotting scope eyepiece provides a 20% wider field of view than the Zeiss zoom eyepiece set at the same power. It is an excellent eyepiece for those observers who need a single all-around magnification eyepiece with wide field capabilities, and who don’t need a zoom’s high power capability. The eyepiece is marked with magnifications for both 65mm and 85mm Zeiss scopes.
The external surfaces of the eyepiece are treated with permanent “LotuTec" coatings. These special hydrophobic (water-repelling) coatings are so smooth, even at the molecular level, that water can find virtually no grip on the optical surfaces. This causes the condensation from rain, fog, snow, or your own breath to form in much smaller droplets than on standard optical coatings. Smaller droplets scatter less light, resulting in higher light transmission and a clearer image. Oil, dirt, and grease are similarly repelled, making for simplified, streak-free cleaning.
The eyepiece has a pull-up rubber-rimmed eyecup, so you won’t have to worry about a rolldown eyecup deteriorating with age as you do with other eyepieces. A slight twist of the eyecup locks it in place when it is fully extended. It comes with a Cordura-type zippered carrying case with a convenient belt loop for no-hands carrying. There are dust covers for both ends of the eyepiece. This fully-multicoated eyepiece bayonets securely into Zeiss 65mm and 85mm spotting scopes and can be changed in seconds. And the image quality is no less than you’d expect from Zeiss . . . absolutely superb.
The specifications to the right are for the eyepiece when used in a Zeiss 65mm Diascope spotting scope. When used in an 85mm Zeiss spotting scope, the eyepiece provides 40x and a 90’ field of view at 1000 yards. Eye relief is 18mm in both cases.
