When you buy this Steiner binocular before December 31, you can get $50 rebate direct from Steiner. To get your $50 check, simply send Steiner the rebate form we’ll send along with your binocular.

Send in a second form and Steiner will pay for and send you a Federal Duck Stamp and a year's membership in the National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA). It’s a bonus from Steiner that’s worth over $35.00.

The Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, commonly known as the “Duck Stamp,” has worked to conserve habitat for wildlife since 1934. Duck stamp sales help fund the National Wildlife Refuge System – an effective way to conserve America's disappearing wildlife habitat. 98% of the money generated by Duck Stamp sales goes to purchase or lease wildlife habitat throughout the National Wildlife Refuge System, a total of six million acres of wetland and grassland that is the home for numerous species of birds and wildlife. Steiner’s contribution to the NWRA in your name will not only help birds and wildlife, but the $15 Duck Stamp you’ll get will also serve as a free entry pass to every National Wildlife Refuge that normally charges an entry fee.

The new ultra-premium waterproof Steiner 10 x 44mm Peregrine XP is the culmination of 60 years of German optics know-how. It takes high power Steiner birding optics to new levels of optical excellence. The Peregrine XP is designed to give you natural color reproduction and the highest possible light transmission over the entire visible spectrum. 40-layer non-tarnishing dielectric coatings on its prisms yield maximum reflectivity. Additional phase-correcting prism coatings improve the color fidelity. Exclusive High Definition full multicoatings are used on all air-to-glass optical surfaces for the highest possible light transmission and the most natural color response.

The 10x magnification is good for shorebirding, observing across open meadows and fields, scanning the opposite side of lagoons and lakes, etc. – anywhere the subjects are distant and/or difficult to approach closely. That said, the 10 x 44mm Peregrine XP has some features that allow for surprisingly good close-in birding as well – such as an exceptionally good near focus of 6.5’ for a 10x binocular and a quite good 6.2° field of view. The depth of field is surprisingly deep, greater than any similar-sized roof prism. You’ll need fewer focus adjustments with the XP than with a conventional binocular to keep nearby birds in focus as they move from branch to branch.

The Peregrine XP has pin-point resolution and surprisingly bright images for a high power binocular, making difficult long distance species identifications markedly easier. Its color fidelity is excellent, even in low light conditions. The large 44mm objectives gather more than enough light for observing in shadowed woodlands or in the low light of evening twilight and give surprisingly bright images for medium to long distance birding in normal daylight conditions. While the 44mm millimeter diameter lenses may seem almost identical to the more common 42mm size most manufacturers use, they actually provide almost 10% more light gathering capacity than the usual 10 x 42mm binocular. It’s a 10% improvement that can often make the difference between identifying a distant bird in the low light of early morning or evening and missing the bird entirely. At only 30 ounces, the Peregrine XP is no burden to carry on all-day birding trips. This very high quality roof prism can handle with distinction just about every long distance birding and wildlife observing situation you might encounter – in good light or poor, in wet weather or fine.

Features of this binocular . . .

  • Multicoated optics: The extra-large 44mm objective lenses and the extra-large 30mm diameter eyepieces are fully multicoated with Steiner’s exclusive broadband HD (High Definition) anti-reflection coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces for excellent color fidelity, light transmission, and contrast. The superior color fidelity of the titanium, fluorite, and other minerals used in the coatings makes it easier to resolve subtle species differences, even in poor lighting conditions.
  • Nano-coated lenses: The exterior surfaces of the objective lenses and eyepieces are coated with Steiner’s exclusive ultra-smooth nano-protection coatings. These special hydrophobic (water-repelling) coatings are so smooth, even down to the molecular level, that water can find virtually no grip on the lens surfaces. The nano-coatings cause the condensation from rain, fog, snow, or your own breath to form in much smaller droplets than on standard optical coatings. Smaller droplets scatter less light, resulting in higher light transmission and a clearer image.
  • Dielectric prism coatings: 40-layer broadband dielectric mirror prism coatings are used on the high index glass prisms for maximum light transmission and high definition performance.
  • Phase coated prisms: Phase-correcting coatings are applied to the prisms to improve color fidelity. The visible improvement resulting from these coatings is particularly apparent when looking sunward at a back-lit or silhouetted bird, where more color and detail can clearly be seen in the shadowed areas of the bird.
  • Eye relief: The long 20mm eye relief will provide a virtually unvignetted field for those who must wear eyeglasses while observing. The extra-wide 30mm diameter of the eyepiece lenses provide a comfortable “into-the-image" view and easy centering of the eye on the wide 4.4mm exit pupil.
  • Body construction: H-body roof prism with internal center focus. The magnesium-alloy body is clad in noise- and shock-absorbing rubber armor. The armor’s non-reflective dark green color was formulated to absorb light, rather than reflect it, making the binocular less visible to wildlife. Ribbing on the body provides a sure grip in wet weather. Subtle gel-pad thumb grips on the underside of the barrels help position the hands for a very precise balance that reduces fatigue during extended observing. The grips are soft and comfortable, like little pillows for your thumbs. The thumb grips and armor provide a binocular that is a pleasure to hold in all temperature and weather extremes.
  • Weather proofing: O-ring sealed and nitrogen pressurized to be waterproof to a submersion depth of 5 meters (16.4’). The mil spec dry nitrogen 22 PSI pressurizing (7.5 PSI higher than atmospheric pressure, to prevent the entrance of outside air or moisture) also makes it internally fogproof no matter what the air temperature or humidity.
  • Focusing: The extra-large ribbed focus knob can be used with either hand. The knob is barrel-shaped for more leverage so it is easy to turn, even while wearing gloves or mittens. One and a half turns of the focusing knob quickly moves from the horizon down to a very good close focus of 6.5’, excellent for woodland birding or butterfly watching. The excellent depth of field, greater than any similar-sized roof prism, minimizes the need for refocusing when following moving birds, no matter whether those birds are 6.5’ or 650’ away.
  • Diopter adjustment: Ribbed rotary collar on left eyepiece adjusts for individual eyesight differences.
  • Eyecups: Twistup soft rubber eyecups are flared at the side to block ambient light for those who don’t wear glasses while observing. The flared extension can easily be flipped down to provide a flat top eyecup for eyeglass use. The flared extensions visibly increase the contrast when compared with conventional flat eyecups.
  • Supplied accessories: A carrying case is standard, as is a neoprene rainguard that goes on easy, comes off easy, and stays on when you are carrying your Peregrine XP. A wide and soft comfort neck strap is provided. The neck strap uses a Clic-Loc system to connect to the binocular body. Simply push the connectors at the ends of the strap into the slots on the binocular body and the strap locks into place. An audible click lets you know that the strap is firmly connected. However, the neck strap can easily be removed by simply pushing on a recessed quick release button in the armor with a ballpoint pen or paper clip. Accidentally releasing the neck strap is virtually impossible.
