The high power Steiner 10.5 x 28mm Wildlife compact is small and light enough to fit in a coat pocket. It’s a sensible choice for when you need added power for long distance viewing but can't be weighed down by a bulky bino. Fully multicoated optics and phase-corrected roof prisms provide excellent color reproduction and sharpness. This high power center focus compact roof prism binocular is waterproof and shockproof.

Physically, the 10.5 x 28mm is surprisingly light at only 11 ounces, making it easy to carry on short walks without tiring – or all day long, for that matter. However, the high power of this binocular, combined with the extreme light weight, will magnify small hand tremors and unsteadiness. This may make it a little difficult for some observers to hold the binocular completely steady for the sharpest images. Be certain you’re comfortable with using very high magnification optics before ordering this binocular.

This high quality compact roof prism can handle most daytime long distance birding and wildlife observing situations where extreme light gathering is not required. It makes a great second binocular to keep in the car glove compartment for use while traveling.

Features of this binocular . . .

  • Body construction: H-body roof prism with internal center focus. The body is clad in noise- and shock-absorbing rubber armor. The armor’s unique earth tone absorbs light, rather than reflecting it, making the binocular less visible to wildlife. Ribbing on the body provides a sure grip. The armor provides a comfortable grip in all temperature and weather extremes.
  • Eyecups/rainguard: Rolldown soft rubber eyecups are flared at the side to block ambient light for those who don’t wear glasses while observing. Contrast is visibly increased compared with conventional flat eyecups. An eyepiece rainguard is provided to keep unexpected raindrops off the eyepieces.
  • Case/carry straps: The supplied case has a wide woven carrying strap and the actual binocular neck strap is even wider and made of soft neoprene for extremely comfortable all-day carrying. The binocular neck strap can easily be removed from the binocular by simply pushing on a recessed quick release button in the armor with a ballpoint pen or paper clip. However, accidentally releasing the neck strap is virtually impossible.
  • Optics: Fully multicoated on all air-to-glass surfaces for good light transmission and contrast. The prisms are treated with phase-correcting optical coatings to provide added color and sharpness in the shadowed areas of silhouetted or back-lit birds and wildlife. Excellent color fidelity makes it easier to resolve subtle species differences. Astigmatism and curvature of field are well-controlled over the critical central two-thirds of the field. The 13mm eye relief will somewhat vignette the field for those who must wear eyeglasses while observing.
  • Diopter adjustment: Ribbed rotary collar on left eyepiece adjusts for individual eyesight differences.
  • Weather proofing: Waterproof and guaranteed not to fog internally or leak.
