| This Nikon camera adapter converts any 50mm, 60mm, 78mm, or 82mm Nikon Fieldscope III spotting scope into a high power telephoto lens. It converts a 50mm Fieldscope into an 540mm f/10.8; a 60mm Fieldscope into an 800mm f/13.3; ; a 78mm Fieldscope into a 1000mm f/12.8, and an 82mm Fieldscope becomes a 1000mm f/12.2. As it has a built-in non-removable Nikon F-mount T-ring, you can only use the adapter with Nikon 35mm single lens reflex (SLR) cameras and Nikon removable lens digital cameras (not Coolpix digital cameras with built-in zoom lenses).
The field with a 50mm Fieldscope is 4.4° with a 35mm Nikon and 2.1° with a Nikon digital camera body. The field with a 60mm Fieldscope is 3° with a 35mm Nikon and 1.4° with a Nikon digital camera body. The fields with a 78mm Fieldscope are respectively 2.4° and 1°, and 2.5° and 1.1° with an 82mm Fieldscope. Close focus is approximately 16’ with all scopes. Unlike other adapters, the Nikon adapter does not use a light-robbing eyepiece to project the image from the scope to the film plane. Instead, it uses a multi-lens no-eyepiece optical system for sharp, flat-field images that rival those taken through a dedicated Nikon telephoto lens, particularly with the ED glass versions of the scopes. All air-to-glass surfaces in the adapter are fully multicoated for high light transmission and contrast. A thumbscrew in the side of adapter allows you to change the camera orientation from portrait to landscape in a matter of seconds. Plastic endcaps keep dust out of the optical system when the adapter is not in use. The adapter is supplied in a zippered and padded Cordura nylon-type case for added protection against rough treatment. The case has loops to attach it to a tripod strap or camera neckstrap.
