This lightweight and compact tripod is a good choice for shorter birders. With its legs fully extended, the manually-adjusted center post puts spotting scope eyepieces 4’4" to 5’5" above ground level – so individuals up to 5’9" tall can use straight-through scopes without stooping. Of course, even considerably taller birders can observe comfortably using a scope with 45° angled viewing.

The tripod has four-section black finish anodized aluminum legs that let it close to a very compact 20.3" long for convenient carrying and storage. The legs are tipped with rubber caps for a non-skid grip on smooth surfaces. New quick flip lever leg locks provide fast set-up and takedown so you won’t miss your chance at a life bird while fumbling with your tripod. The shoulder of the tripod is made of cast aluminum for extra rigidity, and it incorporates a unique single hinge design which allows for a more compact and easily-stored size when folded.

The center post height is locked by a fast-acting flip lever. If you use the tripod for photography, the center post can also be reversed for low-angle shots (shooting wild flowers from ground level, for example). The integrated pan head has 3-way motion (up/down, right/left, and a 90° swing up to change from a landscape to portrait orientation for photographic composition).

The pan head is made of cast aluminum and has a standard #3157 quick release plate for fast scope setup. The head is not fluid damped, but the pan and tilt movements are extremely smooth for cleanly tracking birds in flight or moving from one subject to another. The pan handle locks the vertical motion of the pan head, while a separate lever in the base of the head locks the horizontal motion. The pan and tilt motions have sufficient friction to keep scopes from sagging when the lock knobs are released.

The tripod holds binoculars and scopes weighing up to 7.7 lbs., so it will support most spotting scopes with a camera attached. The tripod weighs only 3.9 lbs. A water-shedding rucksack-style carry bag with a carrying strap is also included.
