| The Celestron 50mm angled-viewing Mini Zoom is so compact you’ll never have a reason to be without a spotting scope while traveling. It’s small enough to fit in the glove compartment of your car. If you see an interesting bird or distant sight while driving, you can pull over, pop the Mini Zoom out of its soft case, and sit it on the hood of your car on its standard equipment folding tabletop/cartop tripod. The scope can even be hand-held at low powers. Taking a quick high power look at a distant bird while traveling – or just checking out the feeders at the back of your yard from your kitchen table – has never been so easy. This very compact and very economical spotting scope makes good high power optics affordable for everyone. It has fully coated 50mm aperture optics that do a good job of collecting light and resolving detail. Its performance will be somewhat limited in low light situations, but its 12-36x zoom range matches well with the size of the objective for most daytime applications. The field of view at all powers is phenomenal for a spotting scope – a wide, wide 160’ at 1000 yards at 12x and a still very wide 82’ at 36x. For the casual birder, who has only the occasional need for higher power than their binoculars can supply, the ultra-compact wide angle 50mm Celestron Mini Zoom gives more than adequate full-featured optical performance at a price that’s almost too good to be true. Optical features of this scope . . . - 50mm objective lens provides good light gathering in a compact body.
- The crown and flint glass optics are fully coated for good light transmission.
- The standard equipment 12-36x fully-coated very wide angle zoom eyepiece has a soft rolldown rubber eyecup for eyeglass use. It is specified at a good 17mm eye relief at 12x. While this is technically correct, the actual usable eye relief of this and all other spotting scopes typically measures a mm or two less due to the recessing of the eyepiece. There will be some vignetting of the field for eyeglass wearers. The specifications to the right are for the zoom set at 12x. At 36x, the field is 82’ at 1000 yards.
- The scope close focuses down to 23’. Through the 50mm Mini Zoom, looking at a bird at that distance at 36x would effectively be the same as looking with your unaided eye from a distance of only 9".
Mechanical features of this scope . . . - The Mini Zoom body is O-ring sealed to be waterproof for use in any weather extremes.
- The scope is only 8.5" long, making it easy to fit in the glove compartment of your car or back pack for traveling.
- The scope’s focusing knob is semi-recessed to resist snagging on clothing or carrying case and is grooved for a sure grip. It is positioned at the top right front of the prism housing to allow precise focusing with either hand, even while wearing gloves or mittens. The focusing knob's position allows you to hand hold the scope at low powers and operate the focuser with the forefinger of the hand holding the scope.
- The Mini Zoom’s 45° viewing angle is generally more comfortable than a straight-through model for watching treetop activity or for extended observing from a kitchen table or back porch. There's no crouching or craning the neck to see through the eyepiece of the scope when it is mounted on its tabletop tripod, as there would be if it had straight-through viewing.
- A retractable lens shade reduces glare and improves contrast.
- Mounts on any photo tripod having a standard 1/4"-20 thread mounting bolt or on its own standard equipment folding mini tabletop tripod.
- A water-shedding soft case that holds both scope and tabletop tripod is standard equipment.
- A limited lifetime warranty is standard.
