The 16mm Questar Brandon is an exceptionally sharp medium high power eyepiece for terrestrial birding and nature observing and for astronomical lunar and planetary observing with 3.5" Questar spotting scopes. It is available as a higher power option for both the Questar Field Model and Birder spotting scopes.

The 16mm Brandon provides a base power of 80x with these spotting scopes, and 120x using each scope’s built-in Barlow lens. These are probably the highest powers usable with the 90mm Questar scopes, using the 1x of magnification per mm of scope aperture rule of thumb that holds for terrestrial spotting scopes under average seeing conditions. A higher power 12mm eyepiece (107x and 160x) is also available, but the use of these higher powers will be limited by haze and heat mirage in our atmosphere.

Contrast is excellent, as is the color correction, making it ideal for observing subtle color variations in plumage. Its high resolution makes small details in distant birds sharp and easily seen.

It has short eye relief that will vignette the field for eyeglass wearers.

While the eyepiece will fit into a conventional 1.25" telescope eyepiece holder, the eyepiece barrel is threaded to screw into the diopter adjustment tube on Questar spotting scopes as a safety measure so that it can’t accidentally be lost in the field.
