| This adapter converts Zeiss Diascope spotting scopes into super telephoto lenses for digiscoping with those digital cameras that have non-removable lenses. The adapter works with both straight-through and 45° angled Zeiss spotting scopes. The adapter is a platform to which the spotting scope is bolted using the scope’s standard 1/4"-20 thread tripod mounting hole. The platform/scope combination in turn mounts on your camera tripod. Your digital camera is attached to a hinged and pivoting arm that holds your camera’s lens up to the spotting scope eyepiece. Images are shot through the scope’s eyepiece using a technique called afocal photography. The image is framed and focused by eye through the eyepiece and the camera swung into place behind the eyepiece to take the picture. The camera’s autofocusing mechanism focuses the camera sharply on the high power image you’ve already composed and prefocused by eye. You can also zoom in and out on the eyepiece image using your camera’s controls for a closer or wider angle view. The camera platform is hinged to swing up for use with a 45° viewing angle scope, or to swing back down for a straight-through viewing scope. A separate hinge lets you pivot the camera platform off to one side so you have instant eyeball access to the scope’s eyepiece. Find your target in the eyepiece, focus, swing the camera back into place behind the eyepiece, and you’re ready to shoot. The camera platform can be adjusted up or down, right or left, or fore and aft, and locked in place to center the camera lens precisely on the optical axis of the eyepiece. This assures that your eyepiece image fully covers the camera’s imaging chip with no vignetting. Because of the adjustment range of the camera platform, the adapter will work with most non-Zeiss scopes, as well as Zeiss 65mm and 85mm Diascopes.
