| This is a lot of high power little binocular, for not a lot of price. This economical compact Bushnell Legend is totally waterproof and fogproof. Morning mists or afternoon downpours will not affect it in the slightest. In addition, special water-shedding Rainguard coatings on the optics keep rain and mist from beading on the lenses and obscuring your vision in wet weather. Its BaK-4 optics are fully multicoated for high light transmission and contrast. While the usable eye relief of 12mm is fine for unaided observing, it will somewhat vignette the field for those who must wear eyeglasses while birding. Only three-quarters of a turn of the focus knob moves from an 10’ close focus out to the horizon. Its 26mm objective lenses gather 8% more light than the more ordinary 25mm objective size. At a 10x magnification, 8% is a significant improvement in image brightness. Overall, this is a surprisingly good high power compact binocular at a surprisingly reasonable price. While we can’t recommend its 10x magnification as your primary birding binocular, it makes an excellent second binocular to complement your existing optics. Features of this binocular . . . Porro prism design. The reverse porro prism design puts the objective lenses closer together than the eyepieces. This results in a very compact body that is easy to store in pocket or car glove compartment. Fully multicoated optics. Multilayer antireflection coatings on all air to glass surfaces for maximum light transmission. Waterproof and fogproof. Dry nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and fogproof in all weather conditions. Rainguard lens coatings. Special hydrophobic (water-repelling) coatings applied to the external optics cause the condensation from rain, fog, or snow to form in much smaller droplets than on standard optical coatings. Smaller droplets scatter less light, resulting in higher light transmission and a clearer image. Armor. Ribbed and textured black rubber armor absorbs noise and shock. It provides a firm grip in spring and fall’s notoriously wet conditions. It also provides a more comfortable grip in the temperature extremes of broiling hot summer and icy cold winter. Pop-up eyecups. A gentle tug on the rubber-rimmed eyecups raises them for use with the unaided eye. A gentle push makes them retract into the binocular body for eyeglass or sunglass use. This eliminates the possibility of the eyecups drying out and cracking with age and use, as conventional rolldown eyecups will. Fast focusing. Only three-quarters of a turn of the comfortably-large ribbed focus knob moves from an 10’ near focus to the horizon. Click stop diopter correction. A click stop diopter ring on the right eyepiece allows you to match the binocular optics precisely to your individual eyesight for a sharp image. The click stops are reather soft, but contoured body shape of the Legend bino keeps the adjustment ring out of the way of your hands when the binocular is in use. This makes it unlikely that the diopter control will accidentally be moved out of adjustment when you least expect it, as is often the case with lesser binoculars. Wide neck strap. The comfortable wide woven neck strap (a rarity in this size and price range) makes the 15 ounce binocular feel feather-light during all-day birding sessions. Soft case. The supplied soft case has a belt loop for no-hands carrying.
