Product Description
This Losmandy DVR108/66 3-ring photoguide/guider mounting ring set mounts a refractor photoguide scope (such as the Orion ShortTube 80) and a circular body CMOS autoguider (such as the Orion StarShoot AutoGuider) on an optional Losmandy D-series dovetail plate or Vixen-style dovetail plate. The 3-ring setup eliminates the possibility of flexure between the guide scope and the autoguider for sharper astrophotos.
Two 108mm i.d. rings hold the guide scope while a third 66mm i.d. ring stabilizes the autoguider behind the guide scope. The dovetail plate and Orion 80mm AutoGuider Scope Set shown in the feature image above are not included with the Losmandy DVR108/66 ring set. They are shown only as an example of how the rings are used.
The Losmandy DVR108/66 rings work on both Losmandy D-plate and Vixen-style dovetail plates. The scope rings have a nominal 108mm (4.25") internal diameter and will hold optical tubes with an o. d. of 2.95" to 4". The guider ring has a nominal 66mm (2.6") i.d., just wide enough to hold the 2.5" diameter StarShoot AutoGuider body. It is designed so that its ring center is the same height above a dovetail plate as the center of the 108mm rings. There are three large hand-tighten adjustment screws with non-marring Delrin tips in each ring. These allow you to aim the guide scope slightly off-axis to locate an appropriate guide star when imaging.
The two black-anodized 108mm rings weigh 29 ounces per pair. The black-anodized 66mm ring weighs 14 ounces. The height from the top of a Losmandy D-series dovetail plate to the center of each ring is 3.437". With a Vixen-style dovetail, the height is 3.187". They mount on each Losmandy or Vixen-style dovetail plate with no tools required.

This combination holds both the guide scope and SSAG in place. My problem was originally thought to be the guide scope not firmly attached to the imaging scope, but what I found out was that with the ring holding the SSAG made all the difference. Since the focuser had to be racked out quite a bit there would be some flex in the guide camera which made guiding difficult. This fixed my flexure problem. (Posted on 11/18/2018)
