Product Description

This economical 2-element Meade achromatic Barlow will triple the power of any 1.25" eyepiece used with it. While it was originally designed to fit into the eyepiece holder of Meade ETX-60AT and ETX-70AT computerized refractors, its short (2.5") length allows it to be used in the 1.25" star diagonal or focuser of any telescope for true 3x magnification. It's best at focal ratios of f/6 and above. A thumbscrew holds eyepieces firmly in place. Because of its high power, be sure not to use too short a focal length eyepiece that might push the scope's magnification beyond the useful limit of 50x-60x per inch of aperture. Weighs 3 oz.

For 30mm//55-deg or even a 26mm//60deg, the fuzzing at the edge and vignetting is tough. With 20mm, it does work great. So...I support both of the other reviews. With the innards pulled and a negative achromat, I made an awesome non-vignetting 1.5x from it......without the cell, it doesn't have the step-in that makes other shorties vignette....So: the bad review seems true, and the good review as well. I don't often put a 20mm into 3X though.. (Posted on 7/31/2020)

I tried this on both my 100mm Reflector and 80mm Refractor. It works great! It really helps with increasing the focal length of shorter scopes! Nice build quality. I was told I couldn't see the bands of Jupiter on my 80mm refractor - but with this 3x and 20mm MA eyepiece I can! (Posted on 7/22/2019)

As with the 2x, it causes the view to lose sharpness. In my opinion, its not worth degrading the view for more magnification. (Posted on 11/21/2018)
