Product Description

This is a very good quality medium power eyepiece for lunar observing, resolving globular clusters, picking up detail in the more compact emission and reflection nebulas, etc. This 15mm focal length is a good eyepiece for filling in the gap between the 26mm eyepiece that comes standard with most telescopes and a high power planetary/binary star splitting eyepiece. It has a somewhat short eye relief that will limit the field for eyeglass wearers. Those who must wear eyeglasses while observing due to severe astigmatism would probably be better off using a Barlow and a longer focal length eyepiece with longer eye relief to reach this focal length, rather than buying this eyepiece for use on its own. It is parfocal with other Series 4000 eyepieces except the 14mm UWA, 32mm and 40mm SWA, and 40mm and 56mm Plössls. It will work well with any telescope type, at any focal ratio.

I decided to review this one, as people often believe it's a lesser plossl due to being made in China. The truth is, in my 120mm f8.3 refractor, it's the best plossl I've used! Sharp from edge to edge, with a nice field stop, I barlow it for beautiful planetary views! With the barlow, eye relief works for most, but not all eyeglass wearers at outreach events. I've found it to equal my Baader Classic Ortho. (Posted on 9/9/2019)

I have owned nearly every series 4000 eyepiece and they are a great value for the money. If you're just starting out, they are a great value. I mostly used the 40, 26 and 20mm eyepieces but the higher powered ones from 15MM up perform very well. Used them mostly on a C9.25 and a meade 8" LX200. If you need multiple eyepieces, buy the series 4000 set and save some money. Used this eyepiece for many years before I upgraded to TeleVue and series 5000. the price /performance ratio is worth the cost. (Posted on 12/3/2018)
