Product Description

This 2-element Barlow has superb sharpness to match that of TeleVue eyepieces. Despite being "merely" an achromatic system, good design gives it better color correction at the edges of the field than some 3-element "apochromatic" Barlows.

It is fully multicoated, with blackened lens edges and internal antireflection threading for excellent contrast. Its barrel is threaded for standard 1.25" filters. There's an undercut safety groove in the barrel that helps hold the Barlow in place should the focuser thumbscrew accidentally loosen. A captive thumbscrew (that can't be lost in the field) holds your eyepieces in place. It has a 3.75" length that allows it to be used in star diagonals.

This TeleVue is parfocal with TeleVue Plössls below 32mm in focal length, so you won't have to do any major refocusing as you change from an eyepiece alone to an eyepiece/Barlow combination. It is optically corrected down to f/4 for use with fast f/ratio reflectors, but will provide excellent performance with any scope type.

Recently received one of these and it blows my Celestron Omni 2x barlow out of the water. It's funny to review a product based on how little you notice it, but that's exactly what a good barlow should do. I detected no extra artifacts when using this in my 8" dob, paired with a 32mm plossl, 28mm RKE, and even ES82 11mm. Wonderful piece of glass. (Posted on 10/19/2019)

What can I say, it’s a Tele Vue! Great build quality and glass like all the other optics they make. I don't use Barlows lot but this is my go-to whenever I do. Doesn’t introduce anything negative to the final image you see - everything is sharp and clear. (Posted on 10/17/2019)

I have three barlows, that I use for various purposes. This is one is by far the best choice for imaging. Perhaps not too surprising, given that it is the most expensive. But anyone doing astrophotography knows that you don't get good images by trying to cut corners on the optics. Definitely stick with Televue if you need to boost detail and your scope, at its native focal length, offers only a wide FOV. (Posted on 9/10/2019)

I use it mostly with my old 25mm plossol. No drop off in image quality and I am fussy in that regard. (Posted on 7/23/2019)

This is a beautifully sharp Barlow. Excellent for visual work. Much better than my previous cheapy ones. No complaints here! (Posted on 1/14/2019)

I have owned this barlow for over 30 years. Still provides the magnification needed for planets with my 10" SCT. This is one of those must have items for the eyepiece case. (Posted on 1/12/2019)

I have used this barlow to magnify planets for ccd imaging with incredible results!
I highly recommend it for imaging or just observing. Really helps to bring out the detail. (Posted on 12/20/2018)

A few eyepieces cover most needs but for lunar or planetary observing a Barlow lets you get to maximum magnification or fine tune to find a magnification between eyepieces. This basic Barlow works well with 1.25-inch eyepieces to cover powers I don't typically use.

The longer barrel made me measure to check for contact with a 2-inch star diagonal mirror. This works in a 2-inch diagonal with a "high-hat" type 1.25 to 2-inch adapter. If unsure, measure and add a parfocalizing ring or similar spacer. (Posted on 11/23/2018)

This is one of the finest barlows one can possibly own. When I got started I bought a $60 barlow. It performed horribly and I promptly returned it and gave this one a try. Given my experience with the cheap barlow along with what I was reading in forums about barlows in general, I was about to say to heck with barlows! Good thing I decided to give this thing a try because it completely changed my opinion of barlows. I won't get technical here and just say everything is relatively unaffected other than magnification. Good contrast and pinpoint accuracy. Plenty bright. I plan to have this thing for years to come! My experience has been that apart from the magnification factor (which I measured being a little over 2.1x) this barlow does not alter images at all. No ghosting or reflections, no field curvature, etc. I have also use an extension to make it operate at ~2.6x with same quality. Lens element is not compatible with standard 1.25" barrel threads, which would be my only gripe. (Posted on 10/26/2018)

At first, I felt this purchase was a waste of money when I had a few other decent 2X Barlows, but when I got down to it the TV 2X Barlow blew the other Barlows out of the water. The TV 2X works great on all of my scopes (2 fast refractors and 2 slow MAKS) and EPs. (Posted on 10/16/2018)

Many experts on eyepieces and Barlows consider the TeleVue 2x standard Barlow among the best available. I would agree 100%. This fine Barlow adds nothing to the final image except magnification... and that's what you want with a Barlow. Some Barlows will introduce their own aberrations and light scatter to the final observed image. Not so with the TV 2x Standard. It gives a sharp, clean and scatter/reflection free image at the eyepiece. This is what a Barlow should be. (Posted on 10/6/2018)

Great piece for those with 1.25" EPs that need a push and can "double" your collection instantly. Typical TeleVue quality. Why 4 stars? My only concern is that the set screw is not "protected" as some others i.e. the screw impinges directly onto the barrel of your EP and WILL leave a scar. Other offerings have the screw impinging onto a collar that snugs up along a broad area of the EP barrel and will not scar. But the again, I'm anal, so this may not be an issue for some!!! I have owned 3 different barlows, including the Televue, and this one is easily the sharpest of the bunch. I've done side-by-side comparisons with the others, and there is a noticeable difference with the Televue barlow. The fit an finish are also very good. (Posted on 8/4/2017)
