Product Description

This is a very good quality low power/wide field eyepiece for lunar observing, capturing galaxy clusters, viewing emission and reflection nebulas in their entirety, etc. You can use the calculator below to see how wide a field it will give you with your particular scope. It provides a big 7.1mm exit pupil with an f/4.5 Dobsonian reflector for rich field scanning of the Milky Way star clouds in Sagittarius from a dark sky site. As the eyes of some observers may no longer be able to dilate to a full 7mm, however, this eyepiece could potentially waste some of the light-gathering capability of a fast focal ratio scope. Thought should be given to matching its exit pupil size to your eyesight before purchasing if you have a fast focal ratio scope, unless you are content to give up some light gathering in exchange for a wider view of the universe. This is an excellent choice to replace the so-so 26mm eyepiece that comes with many moderately-priced scopes, not only to improve the edge-to-edge sharpness, but to give a wider and brighter field of view, as well. It has somewhat short eye relief that will limit the wide field for eyeglass wearers. Those who don't wear glasses should have no problem seeing the entire field in comfort. It is parfocal with other Series 4000 eyepieces except the 14mm UWA, 32mm and 40mm SWA, and 40mm and 56mm Plössls. It will work well with any telescope type, at any focal ratio.

I bought this one a few years ago and really do like it a lot. The stars are sharp for quite a ways to the edge and is a better magnification/AFOV then the 40mm. (Posted on 10/28/2019)

This is one of my favorite ‘pull out anytime’ and ‘pass around eyepiece’. It works in a nice range for most any focal length and most any telescope. No, it is not a $xxx.xx cost piece, but if you lose it, you're not out much. P.S. buy the 32mm to20 (Posted on 10/24/2019)

My Meade Series 4000 Super Plossl eyepieces are my go to pieces when I'm out in the field. They are high quality pieces with great optics for a reasonable price; the rubber eyepiece cups and hexagonal plastic storage cases are a plus. I own a variety of sizes with the 32mm being my favorite due to the lower power and great wide viewing angle. (Use the calculator to get the angle with your scope.) I use it primarily for deep sky and lunar observation and have never had any chromatic or spherical aberration issues. I also like the fact that the Meade Super Plossl's are parfocal across all focal lengths, which means you have minimal refocusing when changing eyepieces. I would recommend these eyepieces to anyone looking for great, affordable eyepieces. (Posted on 8/4/2017)
