This aluminum eyepiece caddy for all Meade ETX Maksutov-Cassegrain scopes serves a double purpose. It keeps as many as seven 1.25” eyepieces and your Autostar computer hand control close at hand so you can find them easily in the dark. It also helps you level your scope when setting it up so that your computer can find celestial objects more easily.
The ETX caddy is placed on top of your tripod so that the holes in the caddy line up with the bolt holes on the tilt plate of the tripod. Your ETX is placed on top of the caddy and the tripod bolts are threaded up through the caddy and into the ETX base to hold the scope in place. The bubble level on the caddy can be used as a guide to help you level your tripod by adjusting the length of the tripod legs.
The caddy has seven 1.25” holes to hold eyepieces. There are also four cutouts to hold your hand control. Two of them are sized and shaped to hold the EC (electronic controller) hand control of a non-computerized ETX. The other two cutouts are sized and shaped to hold the Autostar computer hand control. Each cutout is located 180° away from its matching brother, so that a hand control holder is readily available no matter which side of the tripod you stand on to observe. The two pound five ounce caddy is made of heavy duty 2mm thick aluminum plate with a powder-coated and baked-on black finish that will last for years with no worries about corrosion. The aluminum caddy is non-magnetic so that it will not affect the electronic compass accuracy in an ETX Premier scope with LNT (Level North Technology).
