Product Description

The Astrozap dew shield/lens shade is made of lightweight, flexible, and durable black ABS plastic, lined with black felt to absorb both moisture and light. Aside from retarding the formation of dew during nighttime observing, it acts as a lens shade to block neighboring lights and provide a sharper and higher contrast image when doing astronomical observing from a light-polluted city or suburban site.

Simply wrap the Astrozap around the optical tube's front cell. The ends of the dew shield overlap and Velcro strips on the overlapping ends hold it firmly closed in a tubular shape. The Velcro closures are sewn in place for durability. A two-inch rubber trim inside the dew shield clasps the telescope optical tube front cell snugly to prevent any slippage of the dew shield during use.

Storage is easy. You can roll the Astrozap up like a newspaper and fasten it with a rubber band or string to stand out of the way in the back of a closet when not in use. Alternatively, you can store it open and flat in the top of your telescope carrying case or standing on end out of the way in the back of a closet.

I purchased this shield for use with a Meade 8" LX200 SCT. I live in the desert and dew is not a huge concern however extraneous light at my location is. It is inexpensive and works well for managing the stray light in my area, it is also light weight so its impact on balance in not to extreme, very easy to install and remove especially if you use a bahtinvov mask for focusing. I am happy with this product and would recommend it use for your SCT. (Posted on 10/17/2019)

I use this with an 8" LX200 cassegrain. It is reasonably priced and serves its purpose of keeping out stray light. I also own a Astrozap aluminum shield for my 9.25 Scope. i like the aluminum one a lot more but its pricier of course. If you're on a budget, this shield does the job. If you can get the aluminum I would suggest using that one although it weighs quite a bit more ( but its still very light). if you need a shield and the aluminum isn't an option, you'll be happy with this flexible shield. Highly recommended for either visual or AP. (Posted on 10/28/2018)
