Product Description

This second generation Celestron 7 x 35mm UpClose G2 is a very inexpensive all-purpose lightweight (22 oz.) porro prism binocular that is a super choice for watching sporting events, to take along camping or on vacation trips, or to take birding or out on family picnics or weekend outings.

The 7x35mm UpClose G2 has a wide 9.2° field of view (483' at 1000 yards) and very fast focusing so you can see all the action and keep fast-moving action sharply in focus. It's rubber armored for a comfortable grip and weather-resistant to shrug off the occasional summer shower (although it is not waterproof). Its 35mm fully coated BK7 optics gather substantial amounts of light, making it a useful performer in the low light of twilight or under overcast skies.

Close focus is 13', making it quite useful for backyard birding. Usable eye relief is 13mm, so there will be some vignetting for those who must wear eyeglasses while observing. Overall, this is a good medium power wide field binocular at a sensational price - easy on the eyes, easy in the hands, and very easy on the budget.

Features of this binocular . . .

  • Porro prism optics. Traditional porro prism design using BK7 prisms. Center focus.
  • Fully coated optics. The optics are treated on all air-to-glass surfaces with antireflection coatings for good light transmission, with critical lens surfaces multicoated.
  • Weather resistant. O-ring sealed to resist showers and inclement weather, although not designed to be fully waterproof and fogproof.
  • Armor. Black rubber armor absorbs noise and shock and provides a good grip when wet. Molded-in ridges for a secure and comfortable grip.
  • Roll-down eyecups. The shallow rubber-rimmed eyecups roll down for eyeglass or sunglass use.
  • Close focusing. Focuses to 13', making it suitable for close-in birding and butterfly watching, as well as long distance viewing.
  • Very fast focusing. Less than a third of a turn of the large ribbed focus knob moves from the 13' close focus out to the horizon so you can keep track of fast-moving action.
  • Rotary diopter correction. A variable diopter ring on the right eyepiece allows you to match the binocular optics precisely to your individual eyesight for a sharp image.
  • Tripod adaptable. For extended no-hands observing, a protective cover on the center hinge unscrews, revealing a 1/4"-20 thread hole for mounting the binocular on an optional photo tripod using an optional tripod adapter.
  • Standard accessories. A neckstrap, eyepiece and lens covers, and a soft nylon carrying case with shoulder strap are standard equipment.

    Review by:
These are nice, general purpose binoculars, I got them with my first telescope (along with 10x50 UpCloseG2) and I ended up liking the 10x50 size better, probably because of the extra aperture.
It was very impressive for me when I first started using these to look at the light polluted city sky of my home (where very few naked eye stars were visible), and suddenly see all the stars that were actually in the sky, made visible thanks to these binos.
These inexpensive binoculars are not the best for astronomy purposes, lacking "ED" glass and having a lessthan perfect view off axis. For someone on a tight budget interested on "critically observing the sky", I'd say the 10x50 size is better because it has more aperture, but for general purpose, dual duty (birding, sailing, vacations, etc) these are actually better thanks to a lower power and smaller size, that makes them easier to handle and more useful on daylight / terrestrial use.
