Information on specific models follows this somewhat lengthy introductory material.
The Celestron Ultima Duo 1.25”/2” eyepieces combine the best of two worlds: a high quality wide field eyepiece for visual observing, plus an optical system optimized for high power imaging with a SmartPhone, DSLR, or CCD camera.
If you are interested in solar system imaging through an eyepiece, the Ultima Duo makes the process quick and easy. Industry-standard 42mm T-threads are built into the Duo under the rubber eyeguard for a direct, secure connection to your DSLR or astronomical CCD camera. There’s no need to spend money on expensive adapters to use a camera. A Celestron Ultima Duo eyepiece is ideal for imaging bright solar system objects like the rings of Saturn, craters on the Moon, and Jupiter’s Great Red Spot.
With a DSLR, simply remove the rubber eyeguard to expose the Ultima Duo’s integral T-threads. Using an inexpensive optional T-ring, attach your DSLR camera to the eyepiece and you’re ready to capture crystal clear high power solar system images through your scope. If you are an advanced planetary imager, you can attach Celestron’s optional T-to-C adapter to the eyepiece T-threads. This allows you to use a number of high-end solar system CCD imagers with your Ultima Duo, including Celestron’s Skyris and NexImage Burst cameras.
Imaging the Moon and planets is even easier with Celestron’s SmartPhone Adapter for the Ultima Duos. Unlike “universal” adapters, the Celestron SmartPhone Adapters are custom-fit to securely connect the Ultima Duo eyepieces to your specific SmartPhone model. Its sturdy connection lets your SmartPhone easily and safely capture crisp, sharp images of your favorite solar system objects quickly and with no fuss.
The Ultima Duo eyepieces have a sophisticated eight element/five group optical system giving a wide and flat 68° apparent field of view for visual observing. Each is computer-optimized for excellent correction of chromatic and spherical aberration and astigmatism. Blackened lens edges minimize internal reflections for high contrast. All air-to-glass surfaces are fully multicoated to increase light transmission and contrast. The result is bright, pinpoint, true-color stars on a black field.
A Celestron Ultima Duo’s anodized aluminum body is designed to let you use it in both 1.25” and 2” star diagonals and focusers with no extra adapters required. A compact body diameter of 60mm makes Ultima Duos an excellent choice for use with binoviewers.
If you wear eyeglasses while observing, each Ultima Duo has a generous 20mm of eye relief and a fold-down rubber eyeguard that make it comfortable to use without removing your glasses.
Rubber grip rings provide a good grip, even in cold weather while wearing gloves. The 1.25” aluminum barrel is threaded to accept standard 1.25” color and light pollution filters and has a safety recess to prevent it from slipping out of the focuser. Each Celestron Ultima Duo eyepiece includes cover caps and a protective carry pouch.
